This is what we repeat when we meditate, what we say to help us concentrate and to keep us focused
on our mission. The Gayatri mantra is a hymn to Savitur the Sun God, representing
both the physical Sun and the Divine in all things.
Om Bhur Bhuva Suvah Earth, Mid Heaven, Heaven!
Tat Savaitur Varenyam Let us Meditate on that most,
Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi Excellent Light of Divine Sun,
D' Yo Yona Prachodhyat That it May Illuminate our Minds
Is it to show off that we know Sanskrit? Well, maybe a little. But mostly it’s because a mantra is a great way to remind us of why we do what we do, to keep us grounded in what truly matters to us.
The mantra does the same for us, it aligns beautifully with our core values and is an important reminder of why we created this practice. We particularly like the meaning behind the word “Prachodhyat,” which finishes the mantra by asking for inspiration and guidance to find our path to peace.
